i decided to take a step back and do more line drawings again.
during some month i have been concentrated on the wacom tablet and painting that i neglected a bit my line-work.So here i go and apply what i learned with the tablet - and using the software - in coloring one of my drawings.tried to keep it simple and quick-guess i could have just used my good old watercolors... but it was loads of fun to do for sure:)

I really like your traditional pieces, you would make a great illustrator for children's books or for editorial illustration :D

thank you so much !- i did children illustration professionaly - school-books and such , for portuguese language- it turned out to be difficult to keep up with low prices and quick digital illustrations made by most of illustrators here.Im really used to pencils, ink and watercolors-since many years i work as streetpainter here in lisbon - selling original drawings, watercolors and prints up at the castle - which is my main income and my favorite job.
i sure hope to find a good story to illustrate.I also write some storys on my own - which are yet to be published somehow- probably in the internet...:)

Ahh wow that is awesome you did some childrens illustration, shame about the poor amount of income it gave though. I would of thought it would be quite a decently paid job but I guess the fact that it is such a competitive field forces artists to drive down their prices :(

But hey it is not a big deal when despite that your art is your primary income and I bet you make more money out of what you are doing now than with the childrens illustration :D

yes-working as an streetpainter and selling my work by myself was one of the best decisions i did.It gives me an regular income - which i cant say about my occupation as an illustrator.Portugal is an small country with an tight market and low prices.Sure- i could work outside portugal for example for some editor in my own country, germany (which would be much better paid)- but to be honest im simply not much into sending portefolios around and asking for work. The editor im working for here in portugal contacted me on his own cause i did some small drawings for another failed project-the editor saw the drawings by chance and hired me.since some years there is work dripping but nothing very substancial.Just for example - they contacted me last year in august for an new grammar book- 160 small drawings, and only yesterday they sent an e-mail saying the project is finally starting and i can start drawing...really annoying. In wintertime i could have really needed that job - now its spring and i sell enough up at the castle and i dont need that kind of low-payd work ...im unsure if i should accept.... but probably i better do, to keep it dripping.awww.
im probably going to be a bit more silent here on DA until i finished this-i guess its always a good training...
but soon ill put up an portfolio with my fantasy stuff and send it to some game companys - i think after all this years i have to try at least...:)

So as a street painter do you also paint infront of bystanders then? Ahh that must put you under horrible pressure haha XD

Have you ever checked out sites like Guru.com and Elance.com to get work? I've always wanted to try them but they always seem so complicated hah @_@

Yeah there is nothing more stressful than people watching you draw haha D':

I love your site by the way, no wonder you can manage to make a living of selling them :D

I hope those sites I linked you to are easier for you to understand than it was for me hahaha XD

yeah-drawing people sitting in front of me is kindof a nightmare... :D and thank you - its kind of repetitive to draw the city your living in over and over again - but surprisingly i enjoy it more and more over the years.I repeat alot but im also totally free in this "lisbon-universe".I also dont do much monuments or "real" places- the pictures show my own lisbon - my interpretation of the city.
there are lots of painters in town doing the streets and churches - i do some kind of "imagined" comic version of the city- i dont use reference beside what i got stored in my memory.Of course sometimes i do some studys from photos or nature- and sell them right away- but my comic-pictures are still best-sellers.And fortunatly i started to sell prints aswell-with good success.
this guru.com site looks quite serious.very interesting but kind of scary... :D i dont like to publish my earnings.but besides of this it should be an good place to look for clients.
