i decided to take a step back and do more line drawings again. during some month i have been concentrated on the wacom tablet and painting that i neglected a bit my line-work.So here i go and apply what i learned with the tablet - and using the software - in coloring one of my drawings.tried to keep it simple and quick-guess i could have just used my good old watercolors... but it was loads of fun to do for sure drawing-traditional colors-digital
thank you so much !- i did children illustration professionaly - school-books and such , for portuguese language- it turned out to be difficult to keep up with low prices and quick digital illustrations made by most of illustrators here.I´m really used to pencils, ink and watercolors-since many years i work as streetpainter here in lisbon - selling original drawings, watercolors and prints up at the castle - which is my main income and my favorite job. i sure hope to find a good story to illustrate.I also write some storys on my own - which are yet to be published somehow- probably in the internet...
Ahh wow that is awesome you did some childrens illustration, shame about the poor amount of income it gave though. I would of thought it would be quite a decently paid job but I guess the fact that it is such a competitive field forces artists to drive down their prices
But hey it is not a big deal when despite that your art is your primary income and I bet you make more money out of what you are doing now than with the childrens illustration
yes-working as an streetpainter and selling my work by myself was one of the best decisions i did.It gives me an regular income - which i cant say about my occupation as an illustrator.Portugal is an small country with an tight market and low prices.Sure- i could work outside portugal for example for some editor in my own country, germany (which would be much better paid)- but to be honest i´m simply not much into sending portefolios around and asking for work. The editor i´m working for here in portugal contacted me on his own cause i did some small drawings for another failed project-the editor saw the drawings by chance and hired me.since some years there is work dripping but nothing very substancial.Just for example - they contacted me last year in august for an new grammar book- 160 small drawings, and only yesterday they sent an e-mail saying the project is finally starting and i can start drawing...really annoying. In wintertime i could have really needed that job - now its spring and i sell enough up at the castle and i dont need that kind of low-payd work ...i´m unsure if i should accept.... but probably i better do, to keep it dripping.awww. i´m probably going to be a bit more silent here on DA until i finished this-i guess its always a good training... but soon i´ll put up an portfolio with my fantasy stuff and send it to some game companys - i think after all this years i have to try at least...
